Rainy days are so cozy – as long as you can stay inside nice and snug. Going out in the rain is a whole other story! Wet clothes, frizzy hair and muddy shoes.. We don’t want that! So how do you dress for a rainy day and still look stylish?

How can I look cute on a rainy day?
It always seems to rain on the days when it’s the least convenient. Those days on which you need to look put together, like when you’re going to an important meeting, on a date or to a job interview.
Been there, done that. All those mornings I’ve looked out the window and sighed, ‘Gee, thanks Universe! How can I look cute when it’s raining?’.
Granted, it tends to rain a lot where I live. So I’m somewhat of a pro when it comes to curating a rain-proof outfit that looks presentable.
Here’s my rainy day outfit tips:
Wear (faux) leather shoes or boots. I can’t stress this enough! Fabric shoes, suede heels or canvas sneakers might go well with your outfit, but they will get soaking wet in the rain. It takes hours to dry, and some fabrics could even get stained from the rain. Better wear some shoes that have a smooth surface that is easy to wipe off any wetness or mud. My favorite rainy day shoe is a pair of faux leather ankle booties – even if some water from a puddle splashes up, your socks won’t get wet.
Wear a trendy trench coat or rain jacket. These kinds of jackets are made of fabric that is water resistant. The raindrops just slide off and will leave your outfit perfectly dry. And the good thing is – you can find super cute trench coats these days! I prefer the longer ones, so your legs stay dry as well.
Have your umbrella compliment your outfit. My favorite thing is picking an umbrella! I make sure to have a few in different shades and patterns. Treat the umbrella like an accessory, just like your bag, shoes, belt and jewelry. Are you wearing a black jacket? Add a pop of color with a statement umbrella! Or are you wearing plain neutrals? Grab an umbrella with a neutral checkered print to make it more interesting!

Once you know how to dress on a rainy day, it’s actually pretty fun!
Take your time to play around with different ways to style a rain jacket. I personally love looking at the current trends and trying to translate those to my rain outfit.
Like pairing an oversized rain jacket with leggings or thighs. That way you have an oversized top with a fitted bottom. Even it out with chunky shoes or boots and you’ve got a look!
What do you wear under a rain jacket?
The bigger your rain coat, the better! Not only does it fit the oversized trend, it also keeps more of your legs covered AND it leaves more room for your outfit underneath.
Rainy days can also be cold and windy, so you want to dress warm. Chunky knits and hoodies can easily be covered with a loose trench coat.
Layering is always a good idea. If you get hot, you can easily remove a layer. So layer up and brave the weather!
